Polish Ministry of Defence to introduce SONA system into the inventory of the Armed Forces – New Delhi Times
The Polish Ministry of Defence will introduce SONA system into the inventory of the Polish Armed Forces. On May 22, Poland’s Armament Inspectorate (AI) launched a technical dialogue for a very short-range air defence (VSHORAD) system for the Polish Armed Forces. The AI said, “The technical dialogue will be conducted with enterprises able to offer complex solutions or solutions that can be integrated with VSHORAD systems qualified for the dialogue.” A detailed description will be sent to all companies that qualify for the dialogue.
The dialogue submissions would be accepted until June 19 this year.
The procedure, meanwhile, is scheduled to take place between October 1 and December 18, 2020. The procedure could potentially be extended if the goals are not achieved. The dialogue shall be carried out by a task group designated by the Head of the Armament Inspectorate.
According to information on the website Defence24.com, SONA is to provide the armoured elements of the Polish military with a complex set of VSHORAD capabilities, along with C-RAM capabilities as well. SONA is to replace the legacy Shilka/Biała systems and, to some extent, other VSHORAD systems as well.
