he air component of Operation Lafiya Dole has destroyed several logistics supplies as well as structures operated by suspected Boko Haram Terrorists (BHTs), at Valangide in the Sambisa Forest general area of Borno State.

The Nigerian military has been waging a counter-insurgency war against Boko Haram, and Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) groups in the North East, whose collective agenda is to foist a “Caliphate” in the troubled area.

Acting Director, Defence Media Operations, Brig-Gen. Benard Onyeuko, in a statement over the weekend, said the targeted airstrikes were occasioned by reports from an intelligence, surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) mission confirming activities of the enemies of state within the general area.

“Several Boko Haram Terrorists (BHTs) have been neutralized and their structures and logistics supplies destroyed in air strikes executed by the Air Component of Operation Lafiya Dole at Valangide in the Sambisa Forest general area of Borno State.

“The mission, which was conducted on, 27 March 2020, in continuation of subsidiary Operation Decisive Edge, was carried out after an Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft spotted and tracked some terrorists to compounds within the settlement where they resided in some well-developed structures.

“Consequently, Operation Lafiya Dole scrambled its fighter jets to engage the location.

“The jets were vectored to the target by the ISR aircraft, with their munitions making direct hits in the target area, neutralizing some of the BHTs and damaging some of their dwellings, some which were seen engulfed in flames,” Onyeuko said.

He pledged that: “The Armed Forces of Nigeria, in furtherance of the objective of restoring peace and security in the Northeast, will continue to sustain the offensive against the enemies of our nation.”
