CHATHAM, NJ – The Chatham Township Committee will come to order and head into executive session at its 4:30 p.m. virtual meeting Thursday, followed by its regular meeting at 5:30 p.m., where business on affordable housing will be conducted.

On the Agenda is action to purchase 490 River Road as part of the affordable housing plans for River Road. Action also is scheduled for the rezoning of 344 Hillside Avenue for an affordable housing Group Home. A number of ordinances related to affordable housing will be carried to the May 28 meeting.

The Township Committee is pursuing plans for three such group homes with a total of 12 beds. Properties at 76 Southern Boulevard and 587 Fairmount Avenue have been on the market for some time and are under contingent contract for $530,000 and $515,000 respectively. A third group home could be located at 344 Hillside Avenue where Sterling-Sun Homes has asked the Township to rezone property to create five lots across Hillside Avenue from the developer’s Dixiedale Townhomes. One of those five lots could become available for a group home as part of Sterling-Sun’s contribution to Affordable Housing.
