Developer inquires about purchasing Wichita’s MacDonald golf course

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) The City of Wichita says developer Johnny Stevens wants to buy MacDonald Golf Course.

Parks and Rec director Troy Houtman said the offer was entirely unsolicited and the city has not put the course on the market.

He did call a meeting of the city’s Golf Advisory Board to discuss what the offer could mean.

“It’s so preliminary. This is just the start of it. So, I think it’s a little bit shocking, a little bit aggressive, but first thing’s first, we just need to talk about it, it’s an idea, somebody brought the idea, and it’s just the matter of going through the process,” said Houtman.

He said the city would want to ensure MacDonald stays a golf course if it is sold, but he says the developer’s interest seems to be the same.

The city has been taking a close look at its golf program recently after it moved away from a plan to close L.W. Clapp Golf Course.

The Golf Advisory Board will hold a special meeting regarding MacDonald’s future on Tuesday, Aug. 21 at 4 p.m. at city hall.
